Job Title

Recreation Intern.



Location

Kalispell, Montana. Located in the Flathead Valley in Northwest Montana next to the Canadian border, Glacier National Park and Big Mountain Ski & Summer Resort.

Length of Internship

Spring (Jan - May). Summer (Jun - Aug). Fall (Sept - Dec). Dates are negotiable to work around school schedule.



Work Hours

40-hour per week seasonal position with varied hours to include weekends and evenings.

Pay

This is a non-paid internship in which the intern will receive a complementary membership to the Summit for the duration of their internship.



Requirements

Currently enrolled in an accredited school and a recreation management program . Proof of immunizations records, current CPR certification, proof of liability insurance and current negative TB test. Energetic, positive attitude and detail oriented person. Prefer experience with Microsoft Excel spreadsheets and Word. Other computer skills are a plus. Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills. Must possess good organizational skills. Willingness to learn and participate in a variety of related work areas. Must be able to work with all age groups especially youth.



Skill Development

Intern will develop skills through hands-on experience in the following areas: Computer spreadsheets, Advertising & Promotions, Event Planning, Tournament Scheduling, Volunteer Supervision, Fitness Outreach with Schools, Partnerships with Companies and businesses, Leadership Skills, Customer Relations, Sports League planning and implementation, Outdoor Program planning, Climbing Wall program promotion, Teen program planning, Recreation program expansion planning, Program budgets, and Special Event sponsor recruitment.



Work Requirements

Intern would be working for The Summit Health Center, which is an affiliate of the Kalispell Regional Medical Center. Work is done mostly indoors. Interns will be expected to wear the Summit uniform of khaki pants or shorts, a solid colored shirt and employee badge while working.



Housing & Transportation

The Summit does not provide housing or transportation.



General Duties

The Recreation Intern will gain experience in several areas of recreation programming in a health and fitness field setting. The Recreation Coordinator will assign specific recreation planning projects to the intern. These projects are aimed to provide the intern with the best well-rounded experience possible. See the items below for a list of possible projects to be done by the intern:
  1. Special Events
    • Research, organize, prepare promotional items and direct activities for the Summit Classic 5K, Summit Solstice Triathlon, Fifth for Free Ski Conditioning Camp, Joe Goggins Racquetball Tournament, Three-on-Three Indoor Soccer Tournament, Summit Slam 4-on-4 Volleyball Tournament and Kick Butts Martial Arts Tournament.
    • Assist with record keeping, recruitment, training and organization of Volunteers.
    • Assist with the promotion of the Children’s Challenge Training Guide.
    • Prepare and manage budgets and reports.
  2. Sports Leagues
    • Research, organize, promote and direct league activities.
    • Assist in record keeping and organization of winter leagues (basketball, volleyball & soccer).
    • Develop round robin league schedule and tournament brackets.
    • Prepare and manage league budgets and reports.
  3. Teen Night Program
    • Assist with organization and management of the Teen Night Program.
    • Assist with recruitment and training of volunteer chaperones.
    • Special activity planning.
    • Assist with promotion of Teen Night program and publications related to the program (Ex. Develop program flyer and brochure, public service announcements and volunteer recruitment letter)
    • Prepare and manage budgets, reports,record keeping and program presentations.
  4. Alpine Trekkers Program
    • Research, organize, promote and direct teen outdoor program
