Why Cardiac Rehab?

The purpose of cardiac rehabilitation is to provide a clinically supervised exercise and education program for those with documented heart disease or multiple risk factors for heart disease.




Who participates in Cardiac Rehabilitation?

This program is designed for individuals who have had:
  • Heart attack
  • Heart surgery
  • Angioplasty
  • Stent
  • Stable angina
  • Congestive heart failure
  • Valve sugery
  • Other heart problems





What is involved in Cardiac Rehab?

  • Clinically supervised exercise with telemetry. Telemetry monitors your heart rhythm as you exercise.
  • Individual and group education utilizing the Intervent program. Learn about a heart healthy lifestyle and reduce your risk factors for further cardiac events by focusing on nutrition, prevention, exercise and stress management.
  • An opportunity to meet with other heart patients and share experiences. Meaningful time to address fears and concerns with qualified professionals.

There are more than 60 education kits available in the Intervent program. Each kit targets modifiable risk factors for heart disease including:

  • Smoking Cessation
  • Diabetes
  • Prevention
  • Stress Management





The Cardiac Rehab Team

  • Registered Nurses
  • Exercise Physiologists
  • Respiratory Therapists
  • Registered Dietitians
  • Your Physician
  • Physical Therapists, and Social Services as needed





Getting started in Cardiac Rehab

A physician referral is required.




Cost and Payment

Medicare and most health insurance policies cover the program. It is important to check with your insurance company before you start Cardiac Rehabilitation in order to confirm coverage.




What to expect when you are in Cardiac Rehab

  • Initial interview (1.5 - 2 hours)
  • Exercise class: Monday, Wednesday and Friday
  • Education class: One hour each week
  • Program length: 2 - 3 months
